Background
On August 17 on a night that Nik likes to imagine was ravaged by some sort of cliché horror film thunderstorm, Nikolaus and Wilhelm Tröger were brought into the world. Miracle babies is what they were, really. Healthy twins were something that weren't commonly come across at the time of Wil and Nik's birth, and Nik liked to let the term go to his head. As a child he was a cocky little bastard, running around with his twin and getting into all sorts of shenanigans around the house. He was as energetic and full of life as his 'little brother' as he liked to call him. Hey, he was born first, after all. TECHNICALLY it was accurate. That's not to say that the twins were horrible children by any stretch of the imaginations but Nik could have certainly been described as impish. He loved setting up little pranks on his family and April Fool's day was a favorite of his, but they were innocent enough and more along the lines of tying a hairband around the water sprayer on the sink to give his parents a surprise in the morning than anything truly destructive.
Hannes' decision to leave their mother was something that came completely out of the blue for Nik. At his young, blissfully ignorant sort of age he hadn't seen it coming for even a moment. Certainly he and his father had been a little at odds sometimes and certainly he'd caused a little bit of trouble before, but he hadn't thought that Hannes was unhappy. He hadn't thought that Hannes didn't love Felicie. He didn't understand that relationships with grown-ups were just very complicated and that sometimes love just only went so far. As young children can be in situations like that Nik was confused. Had he been a bad child? Was his father angry at him? Was his father angry at his mother for defending him when he did things he wasn't supposed to? It couldn't possibly have been Wil's fault because Wil had always been so good and gotten along so well with Hannes.
While the disappearance of Hannes angered Nik's twin, Nik himself didn't get angry at all. He was very sad for what appeared to be a short time, but while he appeared to recover quickly from the occurrence Nik had indeed changed. His pranks ceased almost completely and his energy level seemed to decrease. He'd gotten it in his young mind that if he continued the behavior that drove his father away that his mother and siblings would also leave someday. It was this change in his demeanor that shaped who Nikolaus Tröger is today.
As time went by in the Tröger household Nik's memories of these events slowly faded and the pain of his father leaving began to disappear. He didn't remember his insecurities about being a bad child as he got older and certainly didn't realize that he had ever been different than he was. Hannes' reappearance into his life was an awkward but relatively refreshing change in Nik's mind, although he realized that Wil was still very angry about the entire situation. He didn't go out of his way to spend time with Hannes but he didn't go out of his way to avoid accepting his step-family as his own either. He grew relatively attached to his little sister and his step mother over the years, was civil enough with Hannes himself, and didn't give his displeasure with the whole situation a lot of thought. There wasn't much to be done about it at that point anyway.
It was at a relatively early age that Nik began to experiment in music and found himself falling in love with the guitar pretty quickly. He and Wil would have little concerts for their family and life was good. Nik was smart, got good grades, was popular, always had a pretty girl on his arm, and was like a son to the Voice of the World Government. What more could have asked for? Wil's troublemaking was something that always concerned him a little, but that didn't keep him from accompanying his brother on several of his milder adventures if only to try to keep him out of trouble. He never really approved of a lot of the things that Wil did and certainly didn't keep it a secret from his brother (not that he even could). He always told him that one day it would come back and bite him in the ass, but prayed that he was wrong.
At the death of his brother Nik became completely despondent. With half of his very being ripped away he found that he didn't really know how to function properly until the day he started feeling whispers in his mind that caused him to begin to suspect that things were very different from what they'd been led to believe...
The more he grasped on to the stray thoughts of his supposedly dead brother the better he began to recover from his 'death'. It was a handful of weeks after Wilhelm had died that Nik realized that he wasn't crazy. Those weren't illusions that his mind was creating to comfort him but the wayward thoughts of on Andreas Notara from St. John's Canada, and the younger brother of Kilian's new squeezetoy girlfriend, Daisy.
It was odd to Nik that Daisy hadn't previously mentioned the existence of a younger brother, but he remained quiet about it. As time moved forward it became clear to Nikolaus that his brother was indeed alive and the strange boy he had a mental connection with was, in fact, a reprogrammed version of Wilhelm himself.
In the time that he was beginning to understand that Wilhelm was not actually killed in the raider attack Nik had yet another bomb dropped on him. Emeline Jones, celebrity, and a woman he had met on various occasions while growing up (though had only slept with once amazingly) contacted him to inform him of the existence of his tree year old son Lucas Jones. Nik, being an all-around good guy didn't hesitate to accept responsibility for his son, but he didn't for a second to expect to be so pleased with the rewards of being a father.
At the semester of his university year Nikolaus changed his major to music production and continues to keep the secret of Wilhelm's current state to himself, not even allowing Andre to know the truth behind their mental link. He also quietly helps raise his son, posing as nothing more than Emeline's newest boy toy in order to remain near to the boy without the press or anyone else finding out about his blood relation to Lucas until absolutely necessary.
Personality
Nikolaus is cool. There's really no other way to accurately describe him. Cool, confident, relaxed, he doesn't let much get to him and he likes it that way. Where his twin can be a bit of a wildcard Nik stays pretty even-tempered. There aren't a whole lot of ways to get under Nik's skin, and people have tried in the past to do just that.
Because of his relaxed personality people often mistake Nik for being low-energy and while that might not be entirely true he doesn't really mind people thinking that about him. He also tends to be able to put up with a lot of bullshit from other people before he'll get mad, but don't let his chillax personality fool you. This kid can and will get angry if pushed too far, it just takes considerably longer to get him to that point than it does with most people. It's very rare to see Nik lose his temper (unless you're Wil who has the inborn ability to push Nik's buttons) but when he does it's pretty epic. Something like watching a bomb go off some people have said, though considering the state of the world maybe that reference is a little inappropriate.
Nik's ability to stay cool has always assisted him in the department of finding ladies. Nik always knows the right thing to say to hook a girl but in the rare instance that he fucks it up with one he doesn't sweat it. He just moves on to the next, there's always another girl. Nik's been a bit of a womanizer since his high school days. Rarely has he had a steady girlfriend as he's more inclined to move from one woman to the next in a two or three week progression at the most. Why settle for one girl when you can have them all?

He wishes that he could carry a picture of this kid around in his wallet and show him off but he has to wait until he's at least told Kilian before the press finds out. Regardless, Nik's very excited to be a father and very happy that Lucas has accepted him as just that.
★Andreas Notara: (twin brother?) The new version of Nik's twin brother Wilhelm. He's not Wil and never will be, but that doesn't mean Nik isn't happy that he's alive. That's more than most people who lost their twins could say. He looks out for him and helps him with his inability to control his power as much as he can from afar.
★Emeline Jones: (Baby mama) Met her when he was 16 and she was... well 26. It was a fucked up and awesome night. He hadn't really spoken to or seen her since. Little did he know he fathered a child by her. Found out very recently. Trying to deal with it as reasonably as possible. He's beginning to get to know her better and couldn't be more fond of her. She's great about not making him feel like a total asshole about just barging in on her little family and being suddenly daddy. Nik appreciates her company, opinions, and sex, of course. Definitely not ready to be in some sort of relationship or something but he's fond of her.

★Kaspar Moeller: BFF or at least the closest thing he has to one. Kaspar's a lot older than him but Nik sort of feels like he's the one mentoring Kaz. He doesn't mind or anything. He thinks the world of Kaspar. He's probably one of the few things keeping Nik's old soul young.
