a quiet desperation's building higher
it's obvious you understand
the blood that's on my hands
where are you now?
i'm paralyzed,
i can't escape
until i see your face
don't leave me all alone
you're all i know

personality
When she isn't too terribly exhausted from work, Scout is an upbeat young woman with surprising energy. In attempts to re-introduce herself into the world, she willingly surrounds herself by all sorts of individuals and does all she can to experience new things. It's easy to be confused by her considering she tends to be a painfully obvious kind hearted person, but she can quickly change into a brash, outspoken and ‘verbally abusive.’ Considering she spent most of her childhood raising another child, she possesses a ‘mother hen’ attitude. Because of this, she tries not to take small slights too seriously and attempts to be as non-judgmental as possible.
Regardless of the assistance that was provided for her by the World Government, she holds some resentment and skepticism when it comes to their competence. She is unwilling to accept that the demise of her family was something out of their control. Scout will put her faith in humanity's capability to repair itself before putting it solely in the Government's hands. However, her contempt towards raiders is even stronger. She usually believes that the more active, violent raiders are the true villains of her age and she has no problem stating her opinion in that the world would be better off if they ceased to exist.
Although it sometimes takes effort, Scout does what she can to be positive when it should be necessary. Considering she stares death in the face almost every work day, she is constantly trying to surround herself with more happy and soothing things, making her seem somewhat childish from time to time. Becoming paramedic was her own way of trying to cope with being unable to save her family, even if she remembers nothing of the incident. Despite how hard she strives to be selfless and how she may come off as brave, she is riddled with insecurities that she tries very hard to hide. After spending years helping raise her little brother, she does well to push past her own issues, preferring to do what she deems as the right thing as opposed to wallowing in whatever troubles she has. Her own past weighs down on her half the time, but she spends the rest of her days pushing past her demons with all the hope she can gather.
background
Atticus Finch was Angela Madison’s hero. He was an outstanding man who stood up for whatever he believed. He was kind to his children and he would always do the right thing, even if he was scared. He was everything Angela’s father wasn’t, which wasn’t hard considering all Atticus had to do was be there, even if he was safe in a television or in the pages of a book. Of course he was a fictional character, but that was not the point. Angela was perfectly content with relying on Harper Lee's 'To Kill a Mockingbird' to make up for her absent father. Like any father, Atticus was influential to Angela. Because of him, she was inspired to work her way out of the trailer park and into a reputable law school, to become a civil rights lawyer. While she was traveling abroad in London, a chance encounter lead to Angela meeting a young SAS survival specialist named Nicholas Freeman. At first, Angela was far from cozy with the man and it took her some time to get over the stark differences in their ideals. Eventually, Angela and Nicholas became the best of friends and they both grew to appreciate and even love each other's differences. It was no surprise to their friends when they were married and Angela made her stay in London permanent.
Ironic enough, by the time Angela had completed law school, that's when the final bombs of The War were dropped. There was little room worrying over civil rights when what was left of humans were scrambling desperately to merely survive. Angela and Nicholas survived and thanks to Nicholas’ position in the British military, Nicholas and Angela were able to revisit the simple comforts of life, something Angela knew many lacked. She always tried to remember it.
Five years after the world ended, Angela gave birth to Scout Freeman. Since Nicholas had to be ushered out of the delivery room and Angela was damn right loopy after nearly two days of labor, Angela named her daughter after Atticus Finch’s spunky, but surprisingly valiant young daughter. Nicholas and Angela loved Scout from the very beginning. They would have gladly given her the world if it wasn't so damn shitty. Despite the conditions of her surroundings, Scout could still remember a few cherished childhood memories. Sadly, those fond memories of her childhood grew scarce after her father went missing when she was nine years old. Her mother was pregnant with her little brother Ethan when Nicholas and his task force were sent by the World Government to track down what was a rumored raider colony in the making. In the blink of an eye, weeks turned into months and there was still no sight of Nicholas. Before Scout knew it, she had to grow up fast if she wanted to help raise Ethan into a decent boy that her father would be proud of, come his return. Scout was confident, even when Ethan turned a year old, that Nicholas would come home any given moment and then they could be the family they once were. Angela appreciated and envied Scout’s optimism, but she never stopped encouraging it.
After her father's disappearance, Scout was devoted 100% to her family. The conditions that Scout lived in made growing up very awkward for her. She didn't have any friends her age, so as Ethan grew older and required less of her supervision, Scout spent her time rather unconventionally for a teenage girl. When she wasn't working, she was either reading, getting familiar with her father’s weapons, volunteering for local government functions or making boys cry at her kick boxing class. While most people would probably suspect that Scout was unhappy with the way she lead her life, she was in love with life and enjoyed every minute of it.
Against her mother's poorly vocalized wishes, Scout was more than enthusiastic when her mentor, Jean Favre offered her a job with the World Government. Scout saw it as a way to help make the world a better place and help provide for her family, while Angela saw it as a job that would rob her of another loved one. However, it was no surprise to Angela that Scout was excelling at break neck speed in her training courses with the help of a man named Eden. He was horribly impersonal and initially seemed to be put off by Scout, but she was persistent when it came to interacting with him outside of work. In a short amount of time, Eden became the best friend she ever had. Even though Scout was extremely comfortable among her new friends and her position among the black suites, Angela watched wearily as Scout immersed herself in the government she was growing wary of.
Scout was a black suit for little over a year when she went to her friend and co-worker’s home for her usual dinner date with his family. The first thing Scout spotted when she had arrived at Jacob's home was that Eden and several other suits were standing guard outside of the house. It didn't take long for Scout to understand just what was happening. Something in her mind must have broke, because Eden couldn’t even hold Scout back in attempts to prevent her from entering the house. What she didn't know was that her friend had made an attempt to defect from the World Government, and to prevent further loss of the agents that were sent to subdue him, Eden had to make the call in the midst of the struggle to have Jacob put down. Along with the rest of Jacob’s family. The evidence of the executions were all over the walls for Scout to see. Her friends were dead at the hands of the man she trusted above all others. The entire system was flawed and she was a part of it. An inconsolable Scout went into hysterics. In a foolish attempt to remove her from the scene by force, Scout violently lashed out at several agents who tried to subdue her. After a quick brawl and one gunshot, Scout turned her gun on Eden. She wasn’t sure if her violent outburst proved fatal to any of her co-workers but she knew that there was no way in the world that she could hurt Eden. Even if he was suddenly a monster in her eyes, she loved him with all of her heart none the less. In her panic, she gave Eden an impromptu resignation and an apology. Without another word, she made her escape.
The moments that followed her leaving the Hart residence were a blur. Despite the physical and emotional anguish, she didn't stop running until she reached her doorstep. Scout had burst into her own home, ready to whisk her family away to anywhere but London. When she opened the front door, she instantly saw a familiar man in black. She didn’t have time to draw her gun or realize that her family was gone before she was shot three times in the chest.
One year later, Scout had awoken in the London hospital. Once she was coherent, Scout couldn't remember anything past her brother's thirteenth birthday; a three months before she enlisted in the World Government. What seemed like a parade of nurses had entered her room and filled in Scout's blanks with sympathetic looks and what they may or may not have known as lies. Her home was in the process of being robbed by a group of unknown raiders that haunted the outskirts of London. Ethan and Angela were terrorized, tortured and murdered. When Scout stumbled upon the scene, she was attacked as well. She was shot, but somehow survived, not without entering a comatose state.
The hospital had kept a grief stricken Scout for a few more weeks for physical therapy before releasing her into the world without a single soul to turn to. In an act of utmost generosity, the World Government had paid for a one year lease on an apartment in the center of London to compensate Scout’s loss of a home. Even though Scout had quickly worked her way into becoming a paramedic, she was still coping with the loneliness and the loss of her family. One day after a particular hard day at work, Scout was ready to accept that she wouldn’t last the year when one of the most random things ever happened to her. A giggly, lone, Asian toddler literally ran right into her legs. Horribly dumbfounded, Scout scooped up the child and wandered the street until she spotted a frantic Japanese woman, calling out for her daughter. After a conversation that followed after a horribly awkward ‘Er.. I think this belongs to you,’ Scout and Yuiko instantly took a liking to each other. They quickly became friends and Scout was welcomed with all sorts of questionable enthusiasm into a rather eccentric group of people who worked with Yuiko at the strip club. Horribly illegal? Yes. Good people none the less? Yes. They became her surrogate family, and sine then, Scout managed to continue onward with the firm belief that she could overcome her past.
