abilities
- HIVE-MIND TELEPATHY & EMPATHY — This ability is shared only between himself and his twin, Nikolaus. For everything that Nikolaus thinks and feels, Wilhelm will pick up on it, unless Nikolaus has chosen to block anything from his mind.
background
In a time when people were reproducing faster than rabbits, it comes as no surprise to many that the Trögers already had a small brood prior to the birth of the twins. The 17th of August came as any other normal day did, with the exception that one Felicie Tröger was trapped in the hospital for hours on end giving birth to two screaming, wiggling little boys who were expected to die since the day their mother discovered she was pregnant with only her husband Hannes‘ hand to nearly destroy. Nikolaus came first, the stronger baby who seemed ready to take on the world the moment he entered it. Wilhelm Klaus came second, nearly ten minutes after his brother, screaming enough for the two of them and proving loudly that he was very much alive. Still, the infants were required to stay within the hospital for at least twenty-four hours as a precaution. Multiple births were about as rare as unmutated animals in their time, and the survival rate was more than just dismal.
But it didn’t really matter to the Trögers. As far as they were concerned, Nikolaus and Wilhelm were enough to light up the otherwise bleak city of Berlin. And so when they were finally released from the hospital with the doctor’s official stamp of approval, they were welcomed into a home where they would be treated as though they were royalty. Their infancy was spent being catered to by nearly everyone within their household, and it was from this very young age that Wilhelm picked up on certain things that would shape him into the man he is today. Of course, it goes without saying that his and Nikolaus’ childhood was not picture perfect at all times, but it was compensated with enough love and care that if there were any major effects on Wilhelm’s psyche, it would be unnoticeable today.
Wilhelm was a happy child, though he was a slow learner. Where Nikolaus would excel in many areas (such as walking, running, and even being able to eat with a utensil properly), Wilhelm would not. He didn’t learn to walk on his own until months after Nikolaus had, never really got the hang of running without falling or hitting something until he was five, and he seemed to deem utensils overrated and chose to use his hands half the time — to this day, he has moments where he decides a fork is unnecessary. In spite of his short-comings, Wilhelm was a determined boy who never really gave up on anything even when it was clear he would eventually need to. This was perhaps both a blessing and a curse for the Tröger household, mostly the latter when Diddl was involved.
It would also go without saying that he and Nikolaus were never seen without one another. More specifically, Wilhelm was practically a shadow for Nikolaus (perhaps in more ways than one, all things considered) and it would take clever trickery on their parents’ behalf to separate the two if it was necessary for things such as doctor visits or dentists. It seemed as if Nikolaus was the only one within the household that could truly “control” Wilhelm, however, and there weren’t too many occasions where separating the two was a good idea to anyone. So their childhood was spent very attached to one another. Ignorance was bliss, and Wilhelm was more than happy to live in it, but it didn’t appear to be something he was allowed to do for long.
Before their fourth birthday came along, it became painfully evident that their parents no longer loved one another. With Hannes’ abrupt walk-out on their family, Wilhelm found himself immensely upset at his father. He had left so suddenly that anger was the only real way Wilhelm could react, and he acted on his emotions quite readily following his father’s departure. In some ways, Wilhelm made things harder for Felicie, given that he no longer seemed inclined to listen to her, and even rebelled against Nikolaus from time to time. It took their thirteen-year-old brother Kilian’s stern scoldings to straighten Wilhelm out, though even that only improved a small portion of the boy’s attitude.
Even without Hannes’ presence in the household, life went on as normally as they could make it. No longer relying on her husband’s income was a bit of a shock for Felicie, but she adapted to the working world very well and took to working nearly three jobs at a time during the year. She became less and less prominent in Wilhelm’s life while Kilian slowly turned into the father they needed. It was perhaps out of defiance or his own anger toward Hannes that Wilhelm became confused between Kilian’s identity in their family. The older boy made them lunch, took them to parks, made sure they got their baths, and even attended PTA meetings in their mother’s stead. Wilhelm looked up to Kilian as a father more so than a brother, and this remained fact as they grew older.
On August 17th of 2046, the twins’ tenth birthday was met with a plethora of drama within the family. A woman named Anna had made contact with Felicie and insisted upon their meeting, and while such a thing may not have been particularly out of the normal to any outsider looking in, it meant a great deal of emotional turmoil for the Tröger brood seeing as how this woman just happened to be the very same that Hannes had left Felicie for years ago. But as awkward and utterly horrible as their meeting was, Anna had proven herself to be a good woman who wanted nothing more than for her husband to reconnect with his “first family” and her young daughter to know who her half-siblings were. There really was no room to hate her, and so Wilhelm took a strong liking to her and Ilsa quickly. Hannes, on the other hand, was still the source of great resentment for Wilhelm, and though he could be relatively civil toward his father, their relationship didn’t go far beyond one-line sentences.
Still, life went on just as it had before with only the addition of Anna and Ilsa into Wilhelm’s life. Hannes was normally so busy with his research that he never really had to bother pretending he actually enjoyed his father’s company. And maybe that was for the best, as it became abundantly clear to the Tröger family that Wilhelm was going to be an even bigger black sheep than his older sister Brynne. By thirteen, he was already the proud owner of a tattoo and a couple of piercings, and while his style got more and more outrageous by the day, his grades were suffering more than ever. It took his twin’s help on nearly every single test they had for him to pass his classes, but Nikolaus could only help him so much and it was no surprise to anyone that he would return home with moderately low grades and the occasional negative comment from his teachers. School would quickly become nothing more than a social gathering for Wilhelm, and his status teetered on the very thin line of Biggest Goth Loser and Most Likely To Get Famous. Without Nikolaus, it’s almost certain he’d have been beaten up everyday of his school life.
It was before Nikolaus and Wilhelm’s second year of middle school that Kilian became famous almost over-night. Having been hired as the World Government’s “Voice of the People,” Kilian’s fame suddenly meant a number of possibilities for the Tröger family. Felicie was able to cut herself some slack by only working on job, and the family as a whole were finally able to afford a house that didn’t require all the boys to sleep in one room and the girls another. Life was turned upside down on them in the best possible way imaginable, and soon Wilhelm adapted to a new life that had given freedoms and lenience from the Government that boys his age only dreamed of. It didn’t take long for Wilhelm to see himself as invincible, as someone who lived above and beyond the rules of society.
Growing into that lifestyle had an almost destructive effect on Wilhelm and his behaviour. He became more notorious in the tabloids than most celebrities twice his age before he was even sixteen years old, and seemed to be the public’s favourite train wreck. On more than one occasion was he returned home by Black Suits when he was too drunk to find his way and had been separated from Nikolaus during his drunken antics. Although he by no means meant to cause any stress for his family, he didn’t realise for a long time that he was pushing his mother and Kilian to the edge of their limits until the would-be father lost his temper with him. Of course, that isn’t to say that losing his temper at Wilhelm changed the boy’s habits for longer than a week.
As many reckless actions Wilhelm took, he did his best to bring some positivity back to his family now and again. For every wrong he committed against anyone in his family, he tried to the best of his abilities to make it up to them. Whenever he and Nikolaus got into a heated argument, for example, Wilhelm would spend the next day or two doing little things here and there like cleaning up their room or buying him new things to go with his guitars. Where Wilhelm would be the first to lash out at someone, he was almost always the first to apologise for his actions if he realised how unjustified he was.
His public image was quickly propelled into that of a careless teen who was either about to overdose on some kind of variety of drugs or pass out on the streets drunk off his ass. Although anyone that knew Wilhelm would have known that he wasn’t likely to drink more than enough to get himself drunk because, frankly, Nikolaus wouldn’t let his brother get alcohol poisoning, it didn’t appear as though the paparazzi or tabloid writers were interested in letting the word out that it only took three glasses of the bar’s mildest beer to get that boy drunk. It was sometime during this period in Wilhelm’s young life that he quite suddenly made the decision to start a band, immediately recruiting his twin to form a little band they called [something cool idk idk]. Wilhelm had displayed talent in song writing and, coupled with his singing ability and his brother’s guitar playing, it didn’t take long for them to recruit four other members to provide the other necessities. Within a short period of time, [cool band name] was playing at various bars and small venues. While they weren’t exactly considered “good enough” to be radio-worthy, they were still enjoying things ranging from girls who threw themselves at the singer. Perhaps it was a good thing that Wilhelm met one Lea Ulmer after a show, for he more than likely would’ve ended up in some trouble with the girls he met.
Lea was nearly everything that Wilhelm was, only womanised. The two of them shared a firecracker-like attitude and it was their similarities that drew them to one another.
Social
→ relationships
family
- Hannes Tröger — Father (54). Wilhelm had a broken relationship with his father, although they were very civil to one another. In truth, Wilhelm barely knew Hannes, and he didn't seem very eager to rectify this. It wasn't until Hannes began experimenting on Wilhelm that he understood what sort of man Hannes truly is.
- Felicie Hamel — Mother (48). Felicie meant a lot to Wilhelm, and her support for his many strange decisions were what made him so close to her in spite of how little he saw of her. After his and Nik's birth, Felicie was advised not to have anymore children, and so they became the Golden Kids and spoiled rotten.
- Anna Tröger — Step-Mother (32). There was no angsty relationship to be found here, as Wilhelm was quite fond of his step-mother. She encouraged him to take responsibility for his own life, but he tended to ignore such advice. She was also responsible for teaching him how to use eyeliner and eyeshadow.
- Kilian Tröger — Older Brother (27). He sacrificed his childhood in order to raise Wil and his siblings, and considering how young Wilhelm was when Hannes left, he mistakenly began to think of Kilian less of a brother and more of a father. He sometimes referred to him as "Dad," despite how hard he tried not to, and occasionally took advantage of Kilian's fame to get away with some small misdemeanours. Wilhelm believed that Kilian would never let him down, and even held onto the belief that he would come save him from the experiments until the end.
- Claudia Tröger — Older Sister (25). Oldest sister and by far the most cynical of the crew. Her lack of enthusiasm was made up for only by his innate ability for irritating the shit out of her. While Wilhelm didn't really get along with her, he obviously loved his sister more than he'd ever vocalise and occasionally went to her for help.
- Brynne Tröger — Older Sister (23). She was the typical older sister who thought she knew everything and her little brother was still just a baby. As much as he tried to deny it, however, she had been a major influence in his life, and more specifically his fashion sense. Aside from Nikolaus, Wilhelm was closest to Brynne in terms of who he could open up to freely and without hesitation.
- Nikolaus Tröger — Twin Brother (19). Only ten minutes apart, there was no question that Wilhelm was closer to his twin than anyone else in his entire family. No one meant more to him than Nikolaus did, and there was rarely an instance where the two of them didn't speak to one another for more than a day. In spite of this, Wilhelm was perhaps the bane of Nikolaus's existence, because he never listened to his twin's warnings of caution. This ignorance cost him everything, but still Wilhelm relied heavily on his brother for support.
- Ilsa Tröger — Younger Half-Sister (13). The youngest of the Trögers and someone Wilhelm enjoyed corrupting with his music and fashion tastes. She's adorable and he protected her like no other.
friends
- Josef Bäumer — Best Friend. Introduced Wilhelm to many types of music, and currently provides the drums for their dog and pony band.
- Alex Albrecht — Best Friend. Likes to think he's smarter than Wilhelm... and he's kind of right. He plays the bass guitar.
- Adrian Smith — Friend. Gets on Wilhelm's nerves very easily with his obnoxious know-it-all attitude, but still a good guy who does the music editing.
- Mia Haas — Friend. She and Wilhelm dated at some point, but the both of them decided they were better off as friends. She was the backing vocalist and voice of reason.
- Hannah Moeller — Friend. A silent girl that Wilhelm met randomly, her love for music is what drew him to her. He tried to make light of her self-imposed muteness, and was often times seen reading aloud whatever she wrote down with a high-pitched voice, as if to "give her a voice." Wilhelm also attempted to convince her to speak, and didn't give up these attempts even though he failed everytime.
- Wilhelmina Corte-Real — Friend. He looked up to Mina as one of his musical influences, and he greatly enjoyed her company even when they were short-lived due to her busy schedule. It kind of amused him that her name was the feminine variant of his own, so he occasionally cracked a joke about it from time to time.
acquaintances
- Scout Freeman — Online Buddy. He spoke to her pretty regularly via instant messengers and the like. She's a very
sexynice lady that he enjoyed speaking to. - Surrender Hamilton — Online Buddy. A nice, pretty woman he met online, she was very kind and let him ramble on about his family. She also put up with his constant questions about her life and family. He admired that she knows how to paint, and was quite excited to see what a surf board is and what she paints on them. Wilhelm invited her to one of his band's performances, and was quite excited to meet her in person some day.
- Daisy Notara — Online Buddy. The first time they spoke, Wilhelm was less than friendly to her for no real reason at all. The second time, however, they got along much better than earlier before, and Wilhelm dished on some embarrassing facts about Kilian. He had since noted to watch The Lion King because she called him Simba, as well as Star Wars because she called Kilian Chewbacca.
other
- Lea Ulmer — Ex-Girlfriend. The two of them dated longer than Wilhelm had ever dated any other girl. Still, they didn't seem to be able to get along well even when they tried, possibly due to their different personalities. Even though he didn't necessarily like her, they didn't date for so long without a reason. Try as he might, he couldn't seem to push away whatever feelings he still harboured for her.
enemies
- Isabelle Dunstan — Kilian's ex-girlfriend, Wilhelm was convinced she was the devil incarnate. While she didn't actually do anything to him to make him hate her, the mere fact that she was so close to Kilian was what made Wilhelm dislike her so much. He did his very best to keep her at arm's length, shot down every attempt she made at being friendly to him, and egged her on to argue with him. When at last he succeeded in making her yell at him, he was present when Kilian broke up with her. As much as he disliked her, though, he couldn't help but to feel mildly guilty about his part in hers and Kilian's separation.

→ in-game events
- 3 August: Wilhelm has been taken to a fancy restaurant only to be bored out of his mind and accidentally ends up stalking Johann Weiß. Awkward conversation ensues.
- 18 August: After avoiding punishment from the Government for aiding known raiders for two years, Wilhelm is shot by Charre Tangvald and taken further into the outskirts of Berlin. From there, he is injected with a drug that places him into a proto-comatose state, making him appear dead. He is then transferred to a hospital in Berlin, where he is later pronounced deceased from blood loss and trauma. In actuality, Wilhelm is merely in an artificial coma and will be transferred to a research facility in Budapest where he will be experimented on.
- 23 August: Wilhelm has woken up in an unfamiliar room and before he even knows what's happening, he is carted away, injected with various drugs and interrogated about his connection with Nikolaus Tröger. Hannes makes himself known to his son.
- 24 August: Wilhelm is placed in yet another proto-comatose state for his funeral and to allow the drugs to take effect, then taken back to the facility for more experimentation.
- 26 August: Hannes is the only person Wilhelm will cooperate with, and answers his questions without hesitation. They begin taking new approaches with the drugs they've been injecting him with, the new ones making him either violently ill but more aware and enhancing his telepathy beyond the hive-mind with Nik.
- 29 August: The first series of operations have begun being performed on Wilhelm, and while they were able to enhance his telepathy to an extent, they didn't count on his mental stability slowly breaking down. At this point, Wilhelm doesn't feel he can trust Hannes anymore and refuses to speak to him.
- 1 September: Wilhelm realises that Hannes wants to get to his twin somehow, and he's been drilling him with questions as to whatever Nik is saying to him. Desperate, Wilhelm pleads with Hannes to let him go home, but the scientist won't hear any of it and ends the session early for more experimentation.
- 2 September: The last surgery has proved too much for Wilhelm's limits and left him beyond repair in psychological trauma. He contemplates killing himself briefly over the protests Nik makes about it before one of Hannes' assistants attempts to comfort him. In his desperation for a release, Wilhelm stabs the assistant with one of her pens; due to this, Hannes declares the "project" terminated and deems that Wilhelm be put down.
